SITULAE FESTIVAL
6. Situl Festival - a festival of Iron Age life and cuisine was held in June 2021. This year it was organized as a walk among archaeological sites. Visitors were able to see the work of various craftsmen and their products at four venues. Children were able to bake their own bread, paint their skin, make a leather bracelet and a miniature situla and compete in archery. Every hour the Kolenc family theatre prepared a play on the Main Square and on Marof, everyday life scenes of the princely couple were shown by the actors of DKD Senovo. At Kandija and Kapiteljska njiva sites, visitors were able to listen to a guided tour prepared by a curator of the Dolenjski Museum. At this year's Situla Festival, we also had guests from the Polish Diocese, who contributed to the various events. Those gathered at Marof were greeted by Kamilla Duda Kawecka, Deputy Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to the Republic of Slovenia, Jasna Dokl Osolnik, Director of the Dolenjski Museum and the Mayor of the Municipality of Novo mesto, Gregor Macedoni. The holiday ended at the Dolenjski Museum with a lecture “The flourishing Hallstatt of Novo mesto” by the curator archaeologist dr. Borut Križ and a visit to the permanent archaeological exhibition “Archaeological Image of Dolenjska”.
